Short research description:

Degree in “Food Science and Technology”, PhD in “Food Biotechnology” at the University of Milan. International experience at the “Department of Food Science and Technology” (University of Reading, UK) and at the “Institute of Food Research” (Norwich, UK). Training in human nutritional sciences in Europe for post doctoral fellows (The European Nutrition Leadership Programme, March 1998). Since March 1999 research activity on the protective role of specific foods and whole diet and on determinants of eating behavior. Since March 2016 she is full professor of Applied Nutrition at the Division of Human Nutrition of Department of Food, Environmental and Nutritional Sciences, University of Milan.
Research expertise – 1) Development of intervention trials on humans for the evaluation of bioavailability and protective properties of micronutrients and phytochemicals (e.g. carotenoids, polyphenols, glucosinolates) at plasma and cellular level ; 2) Expertise in the analysis of antioxidants in foods and biological samples ; 3) Expertise in the study of biomarkers of oxidative stress, inflammation and endothelial function; 4) Development and organization of cell cultures for studying response to oxidative stress and related markers; 5) Development of experimental design for the study of the effect of foods on eating behavior.
She is the European coordinator of MaPLE (call: JPI-Intestinal Microbiomics). She is also involved in the COST Action CA15132 (2015): “The comet assay as a human biomonitoring tool – hCOMET”.
