Short research description: 

I am working as a senior scientist in the field of analytics at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd, where I joined in 2001 after a 13-years’ research and teaching period at the University of Helsinki. My background is in Pharmaceutical biology/ Pharmacognosy/ Pharmaceutical chemistry and I received my PhD and docentship in 2004 from the Faculty of Pharmacy in the field of essential fatty acids, their analytics and human metabolism. At VTT I am specialized in mass spectrometry based lipidomics and metabolomics and data processing related to them. Analysis of natural bioactive compounds like phenolics, alkaloids and volatiles from dietary sources, side streams and cell cultures belong especially to my expertise. I have been involved in several customer and jointly-funded projects including method development to extract, isolate and analyse bioactive constituents in berries and berry cell cultures, grain and grain products and to study lipids and lipid soluble compounds from plant, microbe and marine sources.
