Ing. Ivana Mezeyová, PhD. is specialist employee on Department of Vegetables-Production HLEF, SUA, in Nitra on job position – lecturer (Spicy and aromatic plants) and technical worker for research and science (monitoring of the biofortification impact on the content of bioactive compounds in different types of vegetables). She is an author or co-author of 22 scientific publications and co-author of scientific monograph. During the doctoral study led by prof. RNDr. Bernard Šiška, PhD. she was participating on scientific research within the frame of IPCC panel, for which a part of Nobel Peace Prize to the IPCC, 2007 obtaining was admitted to her director of studies in 2008. After finishing of doctoral studies in Horticulture specialization she has been working on various positions on HLEF, SUA, in Nitra. Activities in the research field: - research in the area of foliar biofortification of selected crops (garden pea, basil, broccoli, tomato) by inorganic Se and Zn, followed by observation of its influence on changes in content of chosen parameters, laboratory analyses of chosen agricultural crops carried by the department - carotenoids, ascorbic acid, chlorophyll a and b (in department laboratory, spectrophotometrically), participation and research in current projects of the department in cooperation with other departments and institutions - total antioxidant capacity (by DDPH and FRAP methods), total polyphenol content (determinated in Department of chemistry), heavy metals, proteins, nitrates..
- microgreens growing and laboratory analyses of lighting and nutrition dependence on bioactive substance including chlorophylls and carotenoids
- growing of lesser – known vegetable species – testing of new species in Slovak republic conditions – sweet potatoes, blue varieties of potatoes, leaf vegetable (portulaca, leaf mustard, mizuna, mibuna, amaranthus etc.) and aromatic plants (with focus on the impact of several factors (mulching, fertilization, storage, processing) to the vegetable crop quality from aspect of bioactive substance content (carotenoids, vitamin C, chlorophyll etc.) - project leader in international project supported by grant scheme of Visegrad Fund called “Lesser – known species of vegetables, medicinal plants and edible mushrooms: new growing trends in context of V4 countries cooperation” (period of project solving: April 2016-September 2016)
