Dr Bosch has a strong interest in nutrition related research with focus on health promoting effects of secondary plant metabolites, importantly, carotenoids and polyphenols, and their mechanisms of action. Previous and ongoing research is evaluating structure-function relationships of phytochemicals and their metabolites on cellular level (oxidative stress, inflammation, cytoprotective mechanisms) and effectiveness of dietary supplementation strategies on bioavailability and health related biomarkers in animal and human settings. She has extensive experience in biochemical and molecular approaches (nutrigenomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, enzyme kinetics, reporter systems) using in vitro and in vivo model systems to screen for bioactive properties and evaluate the potential for nutraceutical, pharmaceutical or cosmeceutical downstream applications. Present focus of the Bosch group includes the evaluation of alternative, sustainable bioactive sources which includes food by-products or food waste as well as algal sources.
