Manuel J. Llansola-Portoles is currently working in CEA Saclay (France). He is interested the study of natural photosynthesis. Specifically, he is focused on light harvesting complexes, cascade energy and electron events in the photosynthetic apparatus, and the vibrational quantum role on these mechanisms. Previously, he had a position as Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of Arizona State University (USA). He was in charge of synthesis and study of hybrid artificial photosynthetic systems. During his time as graduate student in Argentina, he focused on applying nanotechnology for cancer treatments as his Ph.D. work shows. This time were very successful, developing several systems of silicon quantum dots and showing their applications in radiotherapy. He is also interested in applied science since his bachelor degree obtained in Spain is in Chemical Engineering. Hence, he is trained to have a critical thinking about real world problems, not only basic science.
