Short research description: 

Lenka Langhansova, Ph.D. is the Associate Researcher of the Laboratory of Plant Biotechnologies at the Institute of Experimental Botany, The Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS). She graduated from Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences in 2001, where she focused on Chinese medicinal plants. She began her scientific career as a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, CAS, studying micropropagation of endangered medicinal plant species and production of desired secondary metabolites in in vitro large scale systems to avoid time demanding and labor intensive field cultivation of these valuable plant species.
As a postdoc at the Jacob Blaustein Institute for Desert Research in Israel, she focused on micropropagation of halophytic fodder shrub species to help restore desert areas and sustain population of wild herbivores.
Her recent scientific research pursues study of biosynthetic pathways of valuable secondary metabolites and their biological activity; and phytoremediation studies including stress enzymes of plants. Within the purview of biological activities she searches particularly for anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activity of medicinal plants to identify compounds responsible for these activities.
